TAIWAN STRAY DOG RESCUE

We are a group of Taiwanese volunteers and two foreign residents. We are doing our best to save as many of Taiwan's street dogs as possible.
Taiwan's streets are full of them, so what we can do is only little, however we are trying to save as many as we can. Our small group of volunteers uses their private assets and free time to take of the dogs and pay for the vet treatment and neutering.
We do NOT receive any financial support of any institutions here in Taiwan. At daytime, we are working in offices, but in our free time we are trying to help them. Every dog needs a home, so we trying to find Taiwanese or overseas people to adopt the dogs in our care.
As we only have very limited space for our dogs, we can only take care of a new one if one gets adopted.
We are focused on finding a new home for our dogs.
If you want to help : You can support us by donations to help us paying the expenses for our dog rescues.

"Taiwan Dog" has international friends

The "Taiwan Dog", also called Formosan or "Formosan Mountain Dog", which is the result of lots of stray dogs interbreeding, is on the edge of becoming viewed as its own pure breed. Here at stray-dogs.org, you will find Taiwan Dogs, but also all kinds of mixed breeds and pure breeds, because they all are roaming Taiwan's streets.

-ROMENIA - Save the lions

Caged in a cramped and rusty Romanian hell-hole these starving big cats face death...unless we help

LEANING her emaciated body against the small rusty cage, starving lioness Anetta paws at the bars forlornly as the days count down to her pride's execution.

For Anetta and 13 other kings and queens of the jungle - some too weak to stand or even roar - are to be SHOT unless something is done to save them.

The squalid, ramshackle Romanian zoo that has been their home all their lives has been condemned as unfit for animals by the European Union.

And its director has no money to build proper enclosures to replace the tiny 15ft by 12ft cages into which up to FOUR lions at a time are crammed.

So today we are launching a fundraising campaign . . . to help these manigficent animals roar with pride again.

"We cannot afford to do any more for them," said Daiana Ghender, 43, who is in charge of the state-run zoo built 37 years ago under the communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu. "I feel terrible when I look at them. They are sick and do not have the space for their bodies."

INTERNATIONAL ACTION ALERT, AGAINST “SAFARI HUNTING”

Many animals suffer prolonged, painful deaths when they are injured but not killed by hunters. Hunting disrupts migration and hibernation patterns and destroys families. For animals like wolves, who mate for life and live in close-knit family units, hunting can devastate entire communities. The stress that hunted animals suffer—caused by fear and the inescapable loud noises and other commotion that hunters create—also severely compromises their normal eating habits, making it hard for them to store the fat and energy that they need in order to survive the winter.

USA WARNING - Dog Fighters Posing as Rescue, Older Ladies Involved

Cruelty in the name of the gods

The Sri Dalada Maligawa that houses the sacred tooth relic and a place that is worshipped by thousands of locals and foreigners has today become a torture ground for two innocent baby tuskers.

While Buddhists and devotees worship Lord Buddha and the many gods of the devales at the Temple of the tooth relic, Diyawadane Nilame Nilange Dela stands accused of inflicting cruelty on two baby tuskers Raju and Sindu to tame them and present them to the Asgiriya and Malwatte Mahanayakes on August 7.

Despite President Mahinda Rajapakse attempting to revoke his initial order and take the two baby elephants back to Pinnawela, The Sunday Leader reliably learns that the Mahanayakes of the two chapters have prevailed on the President not to retract on his promise.

Inflicting cruelty

The Mahanayakes who are responsible for protecting and preaching Buddhism are allegedly supporting Dela to inflict cruelty on Raju and Sindu. Photos of Dela hitting one of the baby tuskers with a long pole was released to the media recently. According to reliable sources Dela allegedly used heated iron rods to burn the baby tuskers to get them to obey his orders.

HOW TO CONFRONT 100 HUNTERS AT ONCE AND ESCAPE UNSCATHED

By
Anthony Marr

...At another point, another hunter repeated, “We are the original and true conservationists of wildlife. You guys are just long-haired, welfare-collecting social parasites, using us to raise funds with.”

...“This guy’s front is to attack the Grizzly bear hunt,” said another hunter, except this time he is addressing his cohorts, “but in fact, it is an attack on the entire hunting tradition, establishment and fraternity, from the top down, and from the foundation up. His real agenda is to stop all hunting, of all species"

....“Are you calling us ‘barbarians’? You Chinese people are very good with that, I hear.”

“My apologies on behalf of the Chinese people. But no, I did not call you a ‘barbarian’, although I do call your so called ’sport’ ‘barbaric’, and I mean it.”

A woman spoke up, “We don’t kill for entertainment. Hunting is a noble sport. It is not killing. It is communing with nature.”

....Hunting is not killing? Tell it to the bear, and the deer, and the moose. Well, they might consider you not a hunter, but a terrorist, if that makes you feel better. As for entertainment or not entertainment, may be you should take a look at your hunting regs, ma’am. The term for your communing with nature is ‘Recreational Hunting’. So, fine, you don’t kill for entertainment, but you kill for recreation. Big difference.”

Take it easy, Anthony. Don’t piss them off too much.

It has became clear to me that it would be futile for us to try to convert even one of them. Our job here is to rally the already converted into a coherent fighting force. But in terms of this evening’s meeting being a work session, it was unproductive and even counter-productive. The few supporters who showed up either disappeared or were too intimidated to sign up, at least in the presence of the hunters.

Handlers Abusing Animals To Train For Entertainment Acts

Animals used in circuses or in entertainment acts, don't perform because they want to! they perform because they're afraid not to!

Trainers or handlers such as the ones in this video, force the animal to co-operate into doing what they want with intimidation and acts of cruelty; such as using electric shock, whips, baseball bats, pipes, and other methods of forcing the animal to co-operate.

Wild animals used in circuses and other traveling or entertainment acts, are robbed or deprived of all their natural instincts that would come naturally to them and be utilized if they were free to roam in the wild where they belong.

Wild animals used as part of traveling entertainment acts are forced to live and travel in cramped quarters or structures far and cruelly smaller then their natural environments in the wild; and they often forced to eat sleep and even defecate in the same place.

Because of the above factors and other circumstances, many animals suffer great mental distress as a result; and this has lead to many cases of wild animals escaping and attacking humans because of it. With the then stressed, frustrated and innocent animal being killed and made to look like the bad guy for doing so.

Acts like the ones committed in this video by anthropocentric and selfish human beings are cruel unnecessary and incredibly selfish; and shouldn't be tolerated by any thinking compassionate person.

We can help stop these acts! and the way to stop them! is not to patronize circuses or entertainment acts that use wild animals as part of their shows.

For me personally seeing such beautiful and majestic creatures such as leopards lions and bears reduced to slaves for the purpose of entertainment, is something that upsets me a lot and no doubt lots of other people too.

So next time you see an entertainment act advertising and promoting use of wild animals. Think of the cruelty and torture these innocent animals went and go through in order to perform those tricks, and how unjust and embarrassing it is for them, and please don't patronize and support these shows ensuring that unnecessary acts like the ones in this video continue.

Because remember! these animals didn't choose to be there, they were put there

APPELLO INTERNAZIONALE CONTRO LA CACCIA

Sandbag is coming HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOMORROW !!!!!

A stray dog who became a mascot for British soldiers in Iraq has been transported to a safe house with his puppy in preparation for their flight to the UK.
Troops were forced to return home without their four-legged friend Sandbag earlier this year and feared he would not last long once they had left - although he was rumoured to have already survived being shot five times.
They were worried he would be put down by local Iraqis or killed by other dogs, but the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP) tracked him down and his puppy Dirtbag around the port at Umm Qasr, near Basra, last week.

A fundraising appeal to bring Sandbag home, along with fellow mascot Hesco the cat, was launched on August 7 by the Blue Cross and the SWHP.
Nearly 500 people worldwide have donated to the appeal since then, raising over £8,000 to date.
Steve Goody, Blue Cross director of companion animal welfare, said: 'We've been amazed and extremely touched by the strength of public sympathy for these animals.'
Hesco, who had also been straying, was taken in last Thursday in Umm Qasr by local animal charity Baghdad Cat Rescue, run by former British soldier Louise Hastie.
Ms Hastie is trying to arrange for the cat's transport to Baghdad to join the two dogs.
All the animals will need to stay at the safe house for at least a month until the temperature cools enough to safely fly them to Kuwait for the journey to Britain.
The funds raised so far have covered the transport and accommodation of the animals in Iraq, but it is estimated that at least another £2,000 will be needed to fly them all to the UK and pay for six months in quarantine.
Sandbag was born on the forward operating base at North Port in Umm Qasr nearly two and a half years ago and quickly endeared himself to the British troops stationed there.
Dirtbag is believed to be his only surviving offspring after the mother was killed.
To donate to the fundraising appeal, call 0800 1 408 1831 or visit www.bluecross.org.uk.

Pet Habitat

Pet Habitat is a pets tore here in SM, Baguio city, Philippines. When people go there to look at the animals, they all think its cute and fuzzy and all. But they do not look closer to discover the truth.

The puppies are too young to be weaned. Who know if they came from a puppy mill. Some of the fishes are kept in plastic cups or in small fishbowl with very little water; not much room to swim in and no oxygen. I don't know why they're separated from the aquarium. Turtles are kept in a small concrete cage with no water, stones, I don't even know if they're fed. I also saw a hamster with broken backleg limbs. Clearly, the employees do not care about the animals' welfare. There's probably no vet that takes a look at them once in a while.

Why make a petition against them? There was one time when me and my sister went there. We saw a dead rabbit in a class cage. There were live rabbits in the cage, too. Immediately, we told a worker that a rabbit had died. It had to be taken out of the cage. He listened. I stayed there waiting for him to do something. Guess what? He did absolutely nothing.

There was an elder lady that told them, too, that the pug puppy was shaking. The worker went to look, but did nothing.

I'm tired of going there every weekend to check on the animals. I'm letting my voice be heard, but no one's listening. How can justice be done if people don't lend their ears and do something?

Norway fur farms abuse animals

OSLO - Some Norwegian fur farms let animals suffer with injuries such as bitten off legs or ears, an animal rights activists' group said on Monday after secretly videotaping dozens of farms.

The group, Network for Animal Freedom, said it had found examples of abuse at 45 fox and mink farms visited in recent weeks (www.forbypels.no/). Norway has about 330 fur farms.

"We saw clear violations of animal welfare laws at all the farms we visited," said Per Arne Toellefsen of the network. He said that frustrated animals, cooped up in wire cages, often attacked and injured their own young.

calls for Idaho potato boycott after governor vows to participate in wolf massacre

Even though wolves were only taken off the Endangered Species List in Idaho in May, 2009, Idaho Gov. Butch Otter is not only endorsing the proposed trophy hunt this fall, he’s vowed to participate in it. He told a group of hunters, “I’m prepared to bid for the first ticket to shoot a wolf myself.”
The wolf hunt is an apparent effort to boost elk populations for hunters to slaughter, and will begin on September 1, 2009. The permit to kill a wolf costs $11.50—with 220 wolves set to be killed state-wide.

Equally dismaying is the fact that Gov. Otter claims to “respect” wolves—making the nonsensical claim, in an interview with The Idaho Statesman, “You can still hate them and respect their cunning and their place in nature.”

Friends of Animals’ president, Priscilla Feral says, “Gov. Otter’s enthusiasm for wolf killing not only demonstrates a complete lack of conscience and understanding of the word ‘respect,’ it shows a lack of respect for nature and the ecosystem; wolves don’t need Gov. Otter—or anyone
else—to manage them.”

Friends of Animals is calling for a boycott of potatoes grown in Idaho—the largest producer in the United States. One-third of all potatoes are grown in Idaho. Feral adds: “As long as Idaho is in the business of killing wolves, the nature-respecting public should stop buying potatoes there.”
Look for potatoes grown in Maine, Colorado, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington and other states.

What the USA must change to become a great nation

By Anthony Marr

I was born in China during the Japanese invasion which murdered some 20 million Chinese civilians. My mother was almost captured as a "comfort woman", i.e. a sex slave to be eventually killed when used up. Had this happened, I wouldn't be here writing this essay.

.....

So right off the bat, I was born to think that Japan was anything but great. And though after the war I tried to forgive and forget, Japan turned the same blood-lust against the whales and dolphins, which has kept me seething. No, Japan is not a great nation, not by a long harpoon shot.

....

Britain, which ruled the Cantonese people flooding into Hong Kong, had the responsibility of enforcing its supposedly humane animal laws, but from what I saw as a child and a teenager, nothing along this line was done. Since I loved animals, the British did not relieve my pain. But then, how could a nation known for its cruel sport of fox-hunting impose its will on the people of another culture regarding humane and respectful animal treatment? Based on the above alone, Great Britain, though the lesser of two evils compared to China by far, left/leaves much greatness to be desired.

So finally, when I swore myself in as a Canadian citizen, I felt rightly proud for belonging finally to what I perceived to be a great nation. But it did not take me too long to get disillusioned. As a university student, I worked summers out in the bush as a geologist's assistant. It was then I began to see the horrific assault by logging companies against the environment. When one year I worked in a cathedral-like old growth forest by which I was awed, the next year, it had been reduced to a waste land, with nothing but huge grey stumps left behind. I saw trophy hunters shooting down anything magnificent that moved. And I saw mines and pulp mills discharging heavy metals, cyanides, organo-chlorines, PCBs, PAHs and dioxins on to the land. And that was before I learned about the horrendous Newfoundland seal massacre, and finally flew over the six hellish Alberta tar sands mines which made of the entire Athabasca watershed one enormous carcinogen

...

In the mid-late 1990s, I went to India to work in three tiger reserves to help save them from habitat destruction, and the Bengal tiger from extinction.

...

From what I have seen in three expeditions by plane, train, jeep and on foot, each lasting 2-3 months, India's animals are not well treated, especially its street dogs and wildlife. I have personally rescued a puppy from being stoned to death by children, while the adults stood by, doing nothing. Where animals are concerned, India first task is to save the Bengal tiger and its complex ecosystems. The country does have a federal program called Project Tiger, but it is fighting a half-hearted and therefore losing battle, and tiger habitat continue to dwindle, and tiger numbers continue to decline. The tiger is a world treasure, but India has the responsibility to preserve it

WOW WHAT A JERK

Pls read this :

The rationality of hunting

David Borg Cardona, Marsascala
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20080516/letters/the-rationality-of-hunting

I honestly believe that all those non-hunters out there find it even more difficult and at times impossible to understand why we hunt. The close contact with an awakening spring countryside, a dewy dawn in spring, the first warm rays of the sun on your face as you wait for the sight of a darting turtle dove or two, the magic moment when your dog stands still on a point, the beating of your heart before the expected rise of a bird, the thrill of a decent shot and subsequent retrieve, all these emotions and feelings make up part of the joys of hunting. And they can never be explained, or understood by someone who is not a hunter himself

Those who try to restrict, or worse, to abolish hunting, are acting against our humanity, and that is something I and my fellow hunters will never, repeat never, tolerate or accept. (Sorry you are a jerk, as all the hunters)

Urge People all over the World to Boycott the Olympic Games in Canada 2010

The Olympic Games should only host Countrys who respect Animal - and Human Rights.

Because the World is watching to Canada and People all over the World are outraged over the Seal Slaughter

The 2009 seal slaughter has ended. It's clear that the Canadian seal slaughter is quickly losing favor and support: This year, about three-fourths of the seals who were scheduled to be bludgeoned or shot to death were spared. But we still need your help to make sure Canada doesn't think the protests will end just because the killing slowed. Urge Canada's prime minister to help stop the slaughter forever. Urge People all over the World to boycott the olympic Games 2010 in Canada .

Please sign this Petition , Boycott the Olympic Games in Canada 2010 and help bring an immediate end to the seal slaughter. Share this Petition with everyone you know. A few minutes of your time will make a huge difference for baby seals.

BULGARIA-7 new pups found, mother was shot dead!!

Arrived home to be told that Kosta had been told that a dog had been shot near where he used to work and her 7 pups were there crying for her. Kerry and Kosta went for the pups and brought them back. They are fairly big pups but very young and only just about old enough to eat so we guess they are about 4 weeks old. They have the same mother as the last litter of pups that went to Holland (Scamp, Missy, Suki, Mouse, Laska and Bobby). No one will say who shot the mother and it was away from the centre so not many people will have seen. (From Diane)

Please view the Blog, Photo Album and Video Page on the website to see photos and video of the news pups that have been found.

Animal Cruelty in Turkey

Barabaric act of cruelty in turkey. Baby bear beaten severely and tossed in a river to drown

BULGARIA- RUDOZEM STREET DOG RESCUE

Bulgaria has many street dogs who are often subjected to the most horrendous cruelty. They are kicked, beaten and shot on a regular basis for no other reason than that it provides certain individuals with amusement. Many of these dogs are injured and in pain or starving and in the winter there is a high chance that they will freeze to death.

There are 30 council run dog shelters across Bulgaria. These shelters are more often than not, places of torture run by sick individuals. This is one of the reasons why we are striving to open our own rescue center and registered charity.

Dogs are often left with no food and water. For some, the only thing they can eat, is the dogs that have already died. These places are the last stop for so many animals. One isolator reported killing over 47,725 dogs in just one,two week period. To cut down on costs, they are often beaten to death or just left to starve. These are just a few pictures, taken inside some of Bulgaria's dog sheters, known as dog isolators.

It's Time to Speak for Chained Dogs

Countless chained dogs in BC, some chained in sub-zero conditions, some with no protection from the cold or rain or heat, are still not being helped in a more meaningful way than the SPCA telling the owner to get a longer chain and clean up the feces. The SPCA frequently seizes for a lack of food, water, and shelter, but seems unable to relieve the far worse distress of a life of isolation.

CHINA- Chifeng city dog slaughter

Animals Asia has received information from contacts in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia that the Hongshan district police office has instigated a policy of indiscriminate dog slaughter. The authorities in Chifeng City issued dog-management regulations to the people of the city back in 2003.

The authorities claim that in recent years, the behaviour of dogs and their guardians has become out of control. Therefore in August 2009, the police issued an official announcement forbidding dogs and dog guardians from:

1. Raising large dogs and dangerous dogs in the downtown area of Chifeng City.

2. Entering markets, shops, restaurants, parks, public greenbelt, schools, hospitals, movie theaters, gymnasiums, pleasure grounds, bus stations, airports, streets, resident communities, and other public areas.

3. Walking dogs on the street and footpath.

4. Entering public vehicles and elevators.

If anyone gets out of line, the police will kill all such dogs….

Evidence of this slaughter has been confirmed by the online news agency sina.com at http://bbs.news.sina.com.cn/thread-9-0/tree-842212-3930.html [Please be warned this link contains disturbing images]

Animals Asia is saddened and appalled by these actions being carried out by the Chifeng authorities and the development of archaic rules to regulate dog-guardianship in the city and control street-dog populations.

Animals Asia, in partnership with Chinese animal-welfare groups as part of the “Friends of Animals Asia Alliance” has written to the Chifeng authorities calling for an immediate end to this mass slaughter, and asking the authorities to consider a “grandfather” approach allowing people to keep the dogs they have and, once they have died naturally, instructing owners not to replace them with other dogs. This will at least allow owners to keep their beloved family members. Our coalition letter is below.

What you can do

You can help support our efforts to battle this atrocity. Please write a polite letter to the Chinese Ambassador and send it to the main embassy address in your country. Embassy addresses can be found here:
www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/embassy_list.htm

Explain, politely but firmly, that the policy is cruel, heartless and ineffective, and paints the people and government of Chifeng in a very poor light.

Urge the Chinese authorities to persuade the Chifeng City government to abandon this carnage in favour of a humane trap-neuter-release and vaccination programme, as recommended by the WHO, and animal-welfare organisations worldwide. Please urge the authorities in Beijing to allow dog owners to keep the dogs they already have and allow them to live out their natural lives.

Breaking News! USDA Undersecretary Ann Wright's office has confirmed that Tina and Jewel were confiscated Thursday August 20! Stay tuned for more information!

For two years, IDA and our members have been working tirelessly on behalf of three elephants - Jewel, Tina, and Queenie - suffering in a travelling circus. IDA members have written tens of thousands of letters and e-mails to their congressional Representatives, Senators, and the USDA. You've made thousands of phone calls. We've held many demos, across the nation, wherever these poor creatures have been forced to perform their demeaning, unnatural stunts. And, with the assistance of caring people, we have documented their deteriorating condition as they traveled from city to city in the hands of their incompetent and abusive handler.

By intent, Sabbath Memorial Rescue Center is hard to find -- until you're close enough to follow the noise and soon, your nose.

About 130 dogs live there, on part of a nine-acre mamey grove edging the Everglades. A few wander freely, minimally curious about visitors; most occupy runs, sheds or lean-tos.

UK Alert: 3 Jack Russell Terriers STOLEN in Oxted, Surrey + Other dogs STOLEN in South East for FIGHTING and BADGER BAITING

Three Jack Russell type terriers were stolen on Tuesday 18th August from their kennel in the garden of my son's cottage in Oxted Surrey.

Dispite giving the police accurate information on their whereabouts they did not act and subsequently some aquaintances of my son went to the place and rescued one of the dogs. The vet said he had been used to cover so many bitches his penis and sheath were torn and blistered and when the dog wouldn't perform he had been kicked and beaten. The police have still not taken any action.

We have found out that there are a lot of other dogs at this property in cages and hutches, some of them stolen dogs, and they are being shipped to Ireland for a big badger baiting event out there.

My son's two dogs which are still missing are a 6 year old small sealyham bitch, black and white with a few scars on her head. The dog is 1 year old, all white apart from one eye and part of his ear which are black. He is entire. They are mother and son.

We have also informed the RSPCA and given them as much information as we can although they don't seem to have acted on it either.

Please warn anyone with a terrier that these people are stealing dogs from all over the southeast and using them for dog fighting and badger baiting -both of which are disgusting apart from being illegal, but then, as we have been told, they are only dogs....

Anyone whe has any information please email me at:

90 Days is not enough for "Diamond's" Killers

This weekend in Baltimore, 3 men were cat sitting for a neighbor. After getting drunk they began to torture the cat named Diamond. They put her in the microwave, the clothes dryer, the freezer, and then they drowned her. Under Maryland law this crime is only punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a 1,000 fine. This is not enough for this heinous crime. As long as we continue to give the people a slap on the wrist they will keep doing it. The owners of the cat have lost a beloved pet and their trust for humanity. This is a disgusting dipaly of how the law allows these things to go on. Please sign my petition to Governor O'Malley to make this crime a felony and rightfully punish people for animal abuse.

USA- Help Save One - Urgent Message

1. Mason - a small Terrier dog who was reported stolen by his owner and showed up at the local kill shelter. His owners then left him there. He is laying on a cement floor and is an older dog. You can see the betrayal from his owners in his sad eyes. We have pulled before from this shelter (Clayton County in GA) and will go get him if we can get some help. He is set to be put down first thing on Tuesday morning. There will be no reprieves as he was supposed to go down on Friday. We really would like to get sponsorship lined up today as we can't plan transport and vetting last minute for him. Anything anyone can do to help please do so. Cross post, donate, spread the word - whatever you can do is appreciated.

2. Buster Brown - a small Boston Terrier mix rolls on his back for tummy rubs when anyone approaches. He seems oblivious of the fact he is in a shelter but he sure is lonely. Boston's love interaction and being around "their people". This guy just sits in a kennel all day and is happy for any scrap of attention that can be given to him in a busy shelter environment. I fully admit I am bias as I own Boston's and Buster is near and dear to my heart. Please help him.

3. Three Boston Terrier Puppies - I know, we were surprised as well. They do show up from time to time and these 3 Bostons are in the same SC shelter as Buster Brown. Its hard to believe ust how bad the overpopulation issue is in the south. Yes even purebred puppies end up in shelters and no one comes for them. Anything you can do to help us, I am anticipating MAYBE this will be an easy rescue if we have people who want to adopt?

4. Urgent litter of puppies and Wiley - Their stories are on the website - to make a long story short they were abandoned by a rescue and now will go back to the shelter if not rescued. We can not afford to take on more dogs without help. Please spread the word and if we can get some sponsors, adopters, and fosters it would ease things.

Next I want to talk about our rescue mission that is leaving TODAY (Sunday) and we have almost no funding yet. This is the most important transport we have EVER done. It is a HUGE undertaking and involves many of our special needs dogs you all helped us save. We have a pregnant poodle who just gave birth in a boarding facility and her and her little puppy need to be moved. We have two more pregant dogs ready to give birth at anytime and they CAN NOT give birth in boarding. There is not 24/7 care there. These were puppy mill dogs who came to us already bred (unknown to us). They are too far along to spay. We need to move them along with about 15 other special dogs. We CAN NOT afford paid transports anymore so this is all volunteer based and will still cost a ton of money but less than what it would if we were orchestrating a paid transport this large.

We need the following donations if possible:

Crates, crates, and more crates

Cleaning supplies (bleach, paper towels, puppy pads, towels, disinfectant)

Flea prevention suppies, dog shampoo, collars, and leashes

Gas cards - these are critical - the only thing we need to pay for on this trip is gas and food. We are traveling close to 3000 miles total believe it or not (dogs will not be on transport this long - this mission is a series of shorter transports but our volunteers will be on the road 4-5 days)!!!

Monetary donations to keep this mission running for 4 days. We pray we can pull off the entire transport. We also have residual boarding costs that need to be paid. We only placed these dogs in boarding because we needed to make a snap decision whether to take them or not. We always find a way but certainly can use help. This was a very expensive and stressful endeavor and I would hate to see the choice to save 15 special dogs break the back of the rescue.

In closing, we have a fundraiser at Bark in the Park coming up next weekend and I will be sending a separate message on that. We need more volunteers and support on that to make it successful.

Thank you all SO much and please, you can read about all the above dogs in detail and see their photos at: http://www.helpsaveone.org/urgent-dogs.html - PLEASE CROSS POST!

All donations for the urgent dogs and our rescue mission can be made on our website through the urgent dog fund or by sending a paypal to urgentdogs @ helpsaveone.org.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS EMAIL CAN BE SENT DIRECTLY TO INFO@HELPSAVEONE.ORG. IF YOU HAVE SUPPLY DONATIONS EMAIL YOUR ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER AS WELL. OUR ROUTE IS NEW HAMPSHIRE TO GEORGIA WITH STOPS IN VARIOUS STATES.

USA- HELP SAVE ONE INC- URGENT

We have an extremely unique opportunity to execute an amazing rescue mission this weekend but need YOUR help!

As many of you may know we took in 15 special needs dogs a few weeks ago that come from various backgrounds but the common thread among them is they are puppy mill and gassing shelter survivors. Some are elderly, some have 3 legs, some are blind, etc....but ALL worth saving and we are thrilled we did it.

That being said these dogs came to us with no time to spare - we literally had 24 hours to make the choice whether to take them in or not. We decided YES we will take them.

Over these past few weeks these dogs have been placed in boarding and evaluated. They now need to go to foster homes. We have an opportunity to get them out of boarding this weekend with the help of a few volunteers. Here is what we need to make this happen:

1. Foster Homes!!! Some of these dogs are pregnant and one just gave birth to one little poodle. We can use foster homes from the state of GA all the way up through NY.

2. Help along the way - our route is Providence RI to Atlanta GA with stops in Georgia, West Virginia, North Carolina, & Pennsylvania. We could use food and crate donations for our foster homes along with people who will be willing to help walk and water the dogs :)

3. Money - of course. We need to rent 2 cargo vans and cover the expenses of 6 volunteers (just gas and food is all they ask).

This is a pretty unique opportunity - usually we would need to pay thousands for a transport like this and we have people willing to donate their time. With a little help from everyone we can make this happen. These dogs NEED to start on their journey of recovery and healing so they can be placed in our adoption program and get the home they deserve. This is STEP ONE in that process.

Some "special riders" on this transport will be the senior beagle named DIMP who is high heartworm positive. We have a 4 month old puppy who needs his leg amputated and to learn what it is like to live in a loving home. Three elderly beagles who were turned into a gassing shelter. Puppies who are coming out of quarantine and quite a few Columbus County dogs that were previously in a gassing shelter. We also have puppy mill survivors who are on their journey home.

Please help us!! Feel free to use the Facebook email concerning this or info@helpsaveone.org.

Thank you and this transport "train" leaves Sunday - any help is appreciated!!!

Thank you,

Cruel ‘puppy breeding farms’: Outrage grows in UK

An undercover investigation yesterday exposed the abhorrent cruelty occurring at some of Britain’s puppy breeding farms.
Footage showed the dogs in their small pens with little or no access to natural lights. The dogs were seen to be suffering from physical and psychological problems as a result of the environments.

My friend, Karen Wakeland, responded immediately and picked her up and took her straight to Pet Medical Center in Duncanville. After being examined and x-rayed by Dr. Laura See, it was determined that both of her front legs have fresh fractures. She said this could be the result of being thrown from a moving vehicle. The abrasion on her back hip would also indicate that she jumped and landed on her hip.

She had been seen in the park for over two weeks. This dog had been living in the heat with both of her front legs broken, no food, water and no shelter from all of these terrible storms that we have experienced. It is amazing that she is alive.

They have named her "Peary" because her eyes are pear colored. She is at Pet Medical Center in Duncanville under Karen's name. She is on antibiotics and pain medication right now. The vet says it is possible that she will need surgery on one leg (orthopedic specialist) as it is not lined up, and it has become infected. Needless to say this adds up to more money than Karen and I have.

Any donations to save Peary would be appreciated. Peary is heartworm negative!

Where do puppies come from?

This incredibly important collection of puppy farm footage collected by Debra Tranter is a must see for anyone with an interest in companion animal welfare.

It IS happening here in Australia.

Only our complete rejection of this cruel and profit motivated industry will see an end to Australian puppy farms. Please spread the word

To stop this cruel industry in Australia, please vist:

Even if the puppies look cute, clean and healthy there is no guarantee that their mothers aren’t suffering as breeding dogs in cages for their entire lives

Dog Dumping Notice

Before you decide to get a dog, you must be prepared to become a responsible dog owner. Unfortunately, not all dog owners act responsibly, abandoning their dogs when they become inconvenient. The most irresponsible of dog owners will leave them to fend for themselves in a vacant home, chained in a yard or even throw them out on the streets!!! This is tragic and unacceptable.

Sometimes life gets rough and we have to make serious choices. In some cases, that could mean giving up a beloved pet. However, there are many ways to avoid this. Here are some examples.

I’m moving and my new place does not allow dogs.

Don’t move there. Anyone who has tried to rent an apartment with a dog knows it is not easy. Be diligent and chances are, in time you will find the right place. Try to negotiate the conditions with potential landlords, and be willing to spend extra money. If you absolutely must move right away and cannot find a place that allows your dog, talk to friends and family – someone you know might be willing to take care of your dog for an extended period of time while you search for other arrangements. The same applies if your move is temporary and dogs are truly not allowed.

I’m moving abroad permanently.

Have you ever thought of taking your dog with you? You can get a permit from Dr. Berberi of City Pet Center. Call him on 03-626826. Ali Saba at the Airport can also assist with all the formalities 03-578777. The Airlines are very helpful with the transport of family pets.

My dog has health or behavioural issues that are out of control.

Health problems will happen from time to time in people and pets. If your dog has a chronic illness, it is your duty to help manage it. If current therapy is not working, ask for a referral to a specialist or get a second opinion. Tell your vets that you are at the end of your rope and you need help.

With regards to behaviour problems: have you heard the expression “there are no bad dogs, only misinformed owners”? This is generally true. Our dogs act the way we train them to act, so a behaviour problem is YOUR responsibility. Hire a trainer or visit a behaviourist (we can recommend one to you). If you cannot afford this, learn about dog training on your own. Talk to anyone who will listen – you may find someone else who has experienced the same problem.

I’m having a baby and don’t have time for a dog now.

Dogs and Kids can actually be a great combination if handled correctly. It is essential that your dog is properly trained and exposed to babies and children before your baby is born. Then, be certain to introduce the baby to the dog appropriately. Plus, you must raise your children to respect dogs! Make sure you include your dog in as many family events, outings and gatherings as possible. If your dog knows his place in the pack – and that includes knowing the children are higher-ranking – you can have a safer, more peaceful family unit. Growing up with dogs is one of the best gifts you can give a child, if done correctly.

I simply cannot afford my dog anymore.

Learn the cost of dog ownership. Make a budget that includes your dog’s necessary expenses to determine if this is truly the case. You may find that you can afford your dog after all. To lower long-term expenses, keep your dog healthy. A nutritious diet, regular exercise and preventive veterinary care all play a major role in keeping future costs down. Here are some money-saving tips:-
• Visit low-cost clinics for routine vaccinations. Contact your local animal shelter, or ask your local pet supply store for information.
• Resist the urge to buy extras such as a new collar, dog bed, or bag of treats. Make your own dog bed or ask a friend for help. Learn to make dog supplies instead of buying them. You can also offer your dog carrots or apples as snacks, or make homemade treats.
• DO NOT stop giving heartworm and flea prevention! Instead, shop around for discounts ( but make sure the products are legitimate – ask your vet before you buy).
• DO NOT feed generic / economy dog food to save money. Low-quality diets can cause poor health in the long run. If you cannot budget for premium dog food or a holistic / natural diet, consider a homemade diet.

I have a serious and debilitating health condition.

This is probably the most understandable reason to give up your dog, but there may be other options. Turn to your family and friends for help. Your dog will most likely be a comfort to you during your illness, so it will be beneficial to keep him around. Often you can find volunteers to come and care for the pets of sick owners.

If you are the caregiver of a dog owner who must enter a nursing home or similar facility, consider keeping the dog yourself of placing the dog with friends or family.

I have exhausted all of my options and I really cannot keep my dog.

It will not be easy, but sometimes the only option is to give up your dog. Be sure that you have truly explored all avenues. Abandonment is NEVER acceptable. You are responsible for finding the best home possible for your dog.

• Write up a brief fact sheet about your dog covering details like age, breed, size, colour, health, temperament and personality. Be honest about your dog – especially regarding behaviour.
• Tell all of your friends, family members, neighbours, co-workers and acquaintances that you are looking for a new home for your dog. Explain your situation and the fact that you want to find a great home for your dog. Make sure you check out potential new owners well so your dog does not end up needing a home again.
• If you cannot place your dog in a forever home yourself, contact our Facebook Group. We may be able to help.
• Tell your veterinarian and staff about your situation, they may also be able to help. However, do not drop your dog off for services and fail to come back and pick him up. Never leave your dog on the doorstep of a veterinary office. These are seriously irresponsible acts and are unfair to your dog!
• Please, please do not euthanize your dog if you cannot find him a home.

Important note: Pets in abusive or neglectful situations should always be removed and placed in good homes. If you see a dog being treated inhumanely, please take action.

Could you love Karam ?

This is Karam… a wise 9 year old male terrier abandoned by her owners on a house in ruins.

http://letsadopt.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/karam/

TURKEY- MARY IS WAITING FOR A HOME

Mary had been rescued about 3 months ago in Ankara. She had been left to die in a box along with 3 other puppies... All 4 of them were on the brink of starvation... Their luck changed when one of our friends spotted them.

We took them all under protection. We also started to search for new homes for them. It turned out that Mary was the luckiest of them all. A lady who regularly took her cat, and her dog Karam, to the clinic where Mary was staying spotted Mary there and wanted to adopt her after a few visits.Mary was now living with Karam the dog and the cat of the home.

We thought it would be happily ever after - but no. Mary has been returned to us today. She is back in a cage now. What is worse is, her ex family purchased a new puppy right after dumping Mary. Poor Mary will keep seeing Karam, the cat, the new puppy, and her ex family at the clinic. Each time, Mary will think that she will be going back home with them. She will never understand why she is not going back...

So, here it is: Mary urgently needs a new home.

Help Save One - Updates & Website

Please take a moment to look at our Urgent Dog Page and take an extra look at Snowball. I love this dog!:

http://www.helpsaveone.org/urgent-dogs.html

dogs/puppies to our Available Dogs and Available Puppies pages.

Most importantly, we have dedicated a page to Starlet. Please visit her page and share her story with EVERYONE you know. I consider that Starlet was murdered - she died as a result of the neglect suffered at a puppy mill. She only got a few days of being loved and thats just not fair. Starlet should of lived a long, healthy, and happy life. She was robbed of that and I do not want her to die in vain.

Here is the link to her special page:

I can't thank everyone enough for the continued support!
