Nearly 4,000 dogs helped by Embark Sri Lanka

Embark, ODEL CEO Otara Gunewardene' s personal community project aimed at
eliminating cruelty to animals with an emphasis on stray dogs, has to date
benefited more than 3,800 community dogs.

Thirteen campaigns conducted in Colombo and suburbs have resulted in 2,300
sterilizations, 387 vaccinations and 43 special treatments while the lives
of eight dogs have been saved under the project's 'Saving the Injured'
campaign. Another 48 animals are currently undergoing treatment under this
programme.

Additionally, more than 150 puppies rehabilitated off the streets have been
found homes under the 'Adopt a Street Pooch' campaign.

"Embark is clearly having a tangible effect on the welfare of community dogs
in the city," Ms Gunewardene said. "Sterilization, treating the injured, and
re-homing the animals are an urgent need of the hour as there are numerous
concerns that arise from roaming dogs."

Embark's sterilization campaign focuses on the safe neutering of strays and
pets to reduce their population while also educating the public on the
benefits of doing so. Campaigns are held every month over a period of four
to six days during which a team from the Embark funded group "Blue Paw
Trust" will go to different suburbs in Colombo. Embark has spent Rs. 4.3
million to date, on the 13 campaigns implemented.

The Adopt a Street Pooch Campaign works on re-homing strays with loving
families. All adoptions are followed up on in order to ensure they are
successful and that the strays are not abandoned. Puppies older than seven
months that need to be re-homed can be advertised on the Embark Website.

The 'Saving the Injured' Campaign is executed by a team of dedicated Embark
members - the Emergency Care Unit - which is on call to search, rescue and
treat injured animals.

Embark's 'Education and Awareness' campaigns aim at educating the public and
addressing their fears and ignorance regarding animal welfare. This is done
through street dramas, seminars, discussions and information distribution.

For its education campaigns, Embark has partnered with the Blue Paw Trust
and has been able to successfully conduct a number of Street Dramas
throughout Colombo. These dramas have proved extremely fruitful in a number
of areas as they have encouraged public participation while depicting how it
is possible to create a safe and hospitable environment for humans and
animals to co-exist together.

Currently, ODEL and Embark have established relationships with corporations
and animal welfare organizations and groups in several countries in the hope
of joining with them to create a strong force that will further animal
welfare awareness and bring together a global community of animal activists
to work towards a safer environment and a more loving and respectful
attitude for animals.

As a future initiative, Embark hopes to set up transit shelter for the
injured dogs that are rescued and saved through its 'Saving the Injured'
Campaigns, Ms. Gunewardene said. It is hoped that the 'Transit Shelter'
will provide a safe haven for them to recover and receive further treatment
until they are ready to be re-homed.

JUSTICE FOR KIERA

When Marianne Zelonis came home from work one Thursday evening in April, she found her beloved three year old German Shepherd Kiera lying motionless just yards away from home on a neighbor's lawn. "I jumped out of the car and ran over to her and she had a bullet hole to her temple...she was dead." Zelonis' next door neighbor admitted it was her son, Arthur Menechini, a resident of Pittston Township, PA , who shot Kiera, and said the shooting was in self defense. However, upon investigation police were unsure how Kiera could have escaped her yard and found no evidence supporting Menechini's claim that Kiera had threatened or attacked him and his mother's dog Coco on what many have cited as the first time the man had ever walked his mother's dog on a leash. In fact, Coco was allowed to run loose at all times of day and night, antagonizing Kiera and other neighbors. Kiera, on the other hand, was known to have a great personality, be even-tempered and good with both children and other animals. Moreover, there was a history of animosity between the families and Mr. Menechini had often made it clear he considered Kiera to be a "nuisance". Claiming his actions were justifiable, he turned down a plea deal this summer. This month in a plea hearing, Menechini's attorney's request for dismissal of all counts of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct was refused.

A bench trial has been scheduled for early January, with the presiding judge solely responsible for the verdict and if applicable, the sentence.

Mr. Menichini thinks he did nothing wrong - but there should be no tolerance for someone taking an innocent life in such a violent way. He needs to pay for his actions!

It is our intention to show our support for Arthur Menechini's conviction for the charges of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct. We also believe it is of utmost importance that Mr. Menechini receive the maximum sentence allowable; both to appropriately punish him for these crimes and to send an emphatic message that this type of violent behavior against animals and against a family's animal companion, will not ever be tolerated. It won't bring this family's precious pet back to them... but a strong sentence will in part bring them closure, and by discouraging similar acts of this kind in the future, assure that Kiera did not entirely die in vain.

FIGHTING FOR MIAMI'S FORGOTTEN SLAUGHTER ANIMALS

*A.R.M.* ANIMAL RECOVERY MISSION

The Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) is a organization dedicated to raising awareness while fighting to stop illegal horse slaughter and the shutdown of any and all illegal slaughter farms in South Florida and the United States.

Richard "Kudo" Couto started A.R.M as a organization to fight illegal horse slaughter, the horse meat black market trade and to shutdown all illegal slaughter farms in Miami Dade County.
While a board member with the South Florida SPCA Kudo spearheaded and exposed the world to the horse slaughter issue and now miami's illegal slaughter farms. A.R.M is now the primary group investigating the slaughter industries. His obsession started 19 months ago when he and the SPCA raided an illegal slaughter farm in Miami, Fl. Upon leaving they seized a thoroughbred colt named Freedom's Filght that he soon after adopted. This fight is about redemption and revenge for this horse....After seeing the conditions of the animals and farms Kudo then set out to shutdown the industry. The fight continues still. He now resides in Miami Beach, FL where he brokers Real Estate for a living.

USA- Invasion of the Movement Snatchers

Few of us realize that some U.S. industries pay hundreds of millions of dollars to public relations firms charged with the removal of any and all obstacles to their acquisition of profit. High on the list of those obstacles are grassroots social justice movements.

What does this troubling scenario have to do with animal advocates and our movement to end the exploitation of sentient beings? Well, it turns out the first time Stauber and Rampton wrote about MBD, it was in reference to a presentation given by Ronald Duchin -- the "D" in MBD -- to none other than the Cattleman's Association (see page 66 of Toxic Sludge is Good for You: Lies, Damn Lies and the Public Relations Industry). The year was 1991, and Duchin, a graduate of the Army War College and former special assistant to the Secretary of Defense, was outlining the most effective strategy for "dealing with" the meat industry's biggest irritant: us.

Duchin recommended the following three-step plan:

1) Isolate the radicals

2) "Cultivate" the idealists and "educate" them into becoming "realists"

3) Co-opt the opportunists into agreeing with industry.

Duchin acknowledged in his speech that idealists were hard to work with, and that because of their inherent altruism and the fact that they gain nothing personally from holding their views, the public tends to believe in them. He then offered the cattlemen a clever strategy. He said that if idealists can somehow be convinced that their opposition to a product or an industry inadvertently caused harm to someone, they could not live with the contradiction and would be forced to change their views, to adopt a more "realistic" position.

Duchin next told the cattlemen about how to work with movement "opportunists," people he described as engaging in activism for "visibility, power, followers, and perhaps, employment... The key to dealing with opportunists is to provide them with at least the perception of a partial victory."

The widespread adoption of "cage-free" eggs? A few seats at the table with the group developing standards for producing "Animal Compassionate" lamb? Uncrated "pink" veal? Today, these and similar developments are being widely characterized as victories by organizations with reputations for staunchly opposing animal exploitation.

We hope that his life was not lost in vain.

We beg of you, speak out against the cruelty of illegal dog fighting.

SCOTTISH SEAL SHOOTING SCANDAL: NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL ACTION REQUIRED NOW

The Scottish Government has made it clear that they are going to support seal shooting salmon farmers and not the protection of seals in the forthcoming Marine (Scotland) Act.
At a crucial committee debate on the proposed Act, Scottish Government representatives strongly opposed moves to keep the close seasons which give seals at least some protection during the breeding seasons.

OFF TOPIC--Report From John Hopkins

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY...

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. John Hopkins Update - Good article

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not
result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet,Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful.
A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork.
Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular
levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties .
Water: best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines
becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of
cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the
bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular
level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Ed ward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Cast le Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination offat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends usingglass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food You get the same results, only without the dioxin.. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from thefoam containers to paper.. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Taiwanese dogs: treated like trash

The Taiwanese government has an appalling reputation when it comes to dealing with stray animals. Before the Animal Protection Law came into effect in 1998, the methods used to dispose of unwanted animals were horrifying. Images of dogs being drowned in cages, electrocuted, buried alive or starved led to a massive public outcry, both national and international. The protests did have a positive effect as the government subsequently passed a new animal welfare law and put resources into building more animal pounds, buying catching equipment and providing training. Despite all the money spent on this issue, the welfare of stray animals has unfortunately hardly improved at all and stray animal numbers appear to be increasing, as shown by the EAST survey.

Left to die after living in hell
During their three-year investigation, EAST conducted interviews and field visits to discover where the thousands of dogs and cats taken from the streets of Taiwan actually end up. They assessed 326 cities and towns that dump their stray animals in one of 140 government-run facilities. Chen Yu-min, Secretary General of EAST, states: “The suffering I witnessed at the pounds was beyond imagination. All kinds of dogs are crowded together in small cages, and the weak or sick ones can’t find a space to lie down or even get to the mildewed food. There’s no shelter from extreme weather conditions. Animals are just left to ‘naturally’ die, either by disease or by deprivation of food and water. Even emergency humane euthanasia would be a relief in many cases but it’s not being done. This is a living hell for stray animals.”

The winter came

We hoped this season to delay , but yesterday it started with high cold and did the first victim: a dog from Ana made hypothermia, although the whole family struggled to rescue him , last nigh he went to other worlds..The sadness overwhelms us when we see that we fight with all our power to make their lives happy to all animals saved by us, and yet we are powerless to the nature . That's why our motto is always: SAVE ANIMALS AND NATURE. We try to do as much for both cases, that are equally important.

SOUTH AFRICA- URGENT- Save the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary

This is just a short email to ask for your support and help. Earlier this year we put out a desperate appeal to find funding to continue to support and feed 16 lions that are kept in large natural habitat enclosures at SanWild in three separate prides.

If you have been keeping up to date with happenings at the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary, you will know that we are also presently fighting a legal battle to have a mining permit overturned that has been issued by the South African Department of Minerals and Energy to a small mining company to mine gold in the sanctuary.

For more on this you are welcome to join our Facebook Group 'Save the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary'.

http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php?gid=102811551632&ref=ts

Sadly this two year legal battle has placed a tremendous strain on our operating costs that include funds to feed the SanWild Lions prides and also to fund emergency wildlife rescues, veterinary fees and funds to hand raise orphaned baby animals. We are truly battling financially at the moment. The festive season that is just around the corner makes it even more difficult for us, as donor funding during this crucial period, where we receive numerous baby animals for hand raising, normally drops sharply as people prepare to celebrate the festive season.

While we wish you a great festive season, we would like to ask if you would kindly pls consider our wild animals as well and make a small contribution toward feeding the SanWild lions or alternatively towards veterinary funding. Some of which is also allocated to caring for orphaned baby animals. Your small donation (or large if you should so choose) will help us to pay for veterinary fees or to purchase milk formulas of food for our lions.

Your donation now will be more appreciated than ever as the SanWild animals, especially our lions will face a bleak festive season should we fail to raise at least $5000 to keep them fed and well-cared for over the festive season. Your donation will also ensure that orphaned baby animals such as bush babies, warthogs, impalas, porcupines or black backed jackal pups will receive adequate and good quality care and food until they can be released back to the wild. At a time when NGO's across the world call for compassion and consideration for human children, we would like to remind you that wild animal babies too need your support without which, they stand no chance.

We would really appreciate all the help we can get. On-line donations can be made with your credit card at www.sanwild.com by going to the Support / Sponsor / Donate page. You then use the dropdown box to find the donation of your choice. If you need any help please email me on louise@sanwild.org Direct banking transfers can also be made directly into our bank trust account at ABSA Account Number 9111221180, Branch Code 334349, Danie Joubert Street, Tzaneen. The swift code for international banking transfers is ABSAZAJJ.

Your contribution towards our goal of $5000 US will be greatly appreciated. Like Jespha (one of the lions in our sanctuary) we would like to wish you a great festive season.

Kind and warm regards
Louise

FOIA Request Uncovers Unprecedented Evidence Horse Slaughter is Inhumane

Documents never before made public reveal the USDA was aware of extreme cruelty during horse slaughter at facilities in the U.S. The documents dispute claims horse slaughter in the U.S. was in any sense humane and instead reveal a brutal, terrifying ordeal that should be permanently banned.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released a 906-page document revealing for the first time the alarming cruelty that takes place during horse slaughter in the U.S. The documents included almost nine hundred photographs. Information was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request submitted 3 years ago by equine cruelty investigator Julie Caramante. Animals Angels assisted Caramante in obtaining the documents, and they are now working with Animal Law Coalition to assess and disseminate the information.

"I've been an equine cruelty investigator for a number of years," said Caramante, "and I've witnessed many incidents of animal cruelty but nothing could prepare me for these images."

The photographs document significant injuries to horses at the slaughter house. Injuries included conscious dismemberment, open fractures, blinding, and battered faces. It appears some horses were left to bleed out. Other injuries indicated long term abuse and neglect.

'The pain and terror these horses had endured is criminal," said Caramante.

Missouri government plots undercover sting operations against families selling raw milk

(NaturalNews) Imagine being watched by two undercover cops as you engage in an illicit deal in a deserted parking lot. The buyer hesitantly hands you some cash. You flash a look over your shoulder, just to make sure the coast is clear, then you hand over the contraband. Neither of you says a word. You just nod, acknowledging the deal is done, then you head back to your car and buckle up for the drive home.

But before you can even put the car into drive, a screeching formation of police cars, surrounds you, sirens wailing. Armed officers leap from their vehicles, guns drawn and sunglasses glaring. "Come out with your hands up!" they shout.

You slowly open the driver's door of your car and inch out of your seat with both hands raised in surrender, cowering behind the open door. "What did I do, officer? What's my crime?"

Their answer comes back loud and intimidating: "SELLING RAW MILK!"

In case you're not yet sure what you're reading here, note carefully that these daughters were not caught selling crack, meth or crank. They weren't dealing second-hand pharmaceuticals to yuppie school kids. They weren't selling e.coli-contaminated hamburger meat, cancer-causing diet sodas (made with aspartame) or canned soups laced with MSG. They weren't even selling broiler chickens contaminated with salmonella -- just as you can find in every grocery store in America. Nope, they were selling raw milk. You know, the bovine mother's milk, unpasteurized, unprocessed, non-homogenized and wholly pure, natural and innocent. The stuff America was raised on. The stuff your parents fed you when you were a kid, if your family was lucky enough to have a cow.

In Missouri today, selling such a natural product is now apparently a criminal act. What's next? A ban on farm-fresh eggs because the Dept. of Health doesn't control their quality? The outlawing of raw broccoli because broccoli contains natural anti-cancer medicine?

Fortunately, the Bechard family is fighting back. As reported by the News-Leader

Tulsa Zoo giraffe dies after exam for injury: Amali's neck was damaged during her transport in October.

Amali arrived in Tulsa after being transported from the Wilds preserve near Cumberland, Ohio. When she arrived, she had an obvious crick in her neck that only got worse.

The X-rays revealed a fractured growth plate in Amali's neck, Backues said. Because Amali was a young adult, she still had growth plates, which are cartilage and weaker parts of the bone. The strong ligament that runs along the back of the giraffe's neck was causing the fractured joint to become unstable and move into an almost 90-degree angle.

No 'crocodile tears' for tanking skins trade

In the exotic skins trade, alligators are commonly bludgeoned with hammers or metal bars; snakes are nailed to trees and skinned alive. These animals should not have to suffer just for humans' coldblooded vanity.

When PETA went undercover at an alligator farm in Florida, our investigator documented workers smashing alligators over the head with aluminum bats in a crude attempt to kill them. Many animals continued to writhe and move after they had supposedly been killed.

On other farms, according to Dr. Clifford Warwick, a specialist in reptile biology and welfare, alligators are shot or axed to death—or have a chisel smashed through their spinal cord with a hammer.

Many alligator and crocodile farms are "supplemented" with "animals who have been taken from the wild and put into conditions that are very unhygienic, very cramped, very crowded," says Warwick. "It's quite a sad, stressful life."

With so many choices available to us today, there's no reason for designers to continue using real skins—and there's no reason for consumers to buy them. Alligators, snakes and other animals should not have to suffer and die just for our coldblooded vanity.

Andy Elliott - 'Not Guilty of Trespassing to help dog'

JEFFERSON COUNTY - "I feel setup, because I feel like the deputy should have gone with me but he kept insisting with me on the phone, twice, he said, 'you go, because I don't want to put him on the defensive," said Andi Elliott.

The Director of Animal Cruelty out of Washington DC has even sent a letter to the Sheriff quoting laws that allow aiding animals undergoing "needless suffering."

Elliott helped get medical treatment to a dog who had multiple broken bones, some as old as three weeks, others were recent and believed to have resulted from a car hitting her. The dog was also nursing puppies, left out in the winter snow for several days even after help was offered to the owner.

"I think it's ridiculous, this seems to be a repeating pattern here in Jefferson County. They turn a blind eye to the animals. I think I'm being persecuted here because I try and stand up for the animals," said Elliott.

Sheriff Blair Olsen refused to talk to me today about Andi Elliott, saying, he just didn't have time.

"I feel that Sheriff Olsen has it in for me... Quite frankly, I think these attempts at trespassing charges are his attempts to bully me into silence," said Elliott.

No charges have been filed against the owner of the dog.

Let say no to Italian hell in the city of Campobasso in Molise!

The situation in shelter Santo Stefano, where there is imprisoned around 750 dogs, is worse every day. It is so scandalous: last Saturday there was another massacre between the two dogs in a crowded shelter abandoned and forgotten by God and the world. One dog died, another is in a very serious condition. Nobody does anything to separate aggressive dogs from the small ones etc.

We went to look to the shelter and as always

1) Nobody was there

2) The company which should take care of the shelter, clean etc. (Gener Service srl Avellino) is receiving 232.756, 79 euros. Of course, it doesn't do anything.
3) Now the company has only 3 employees, who are working every day for six hours per day. It is absurd to care and clean 750 pens and feed 750 dogs.

Veterinars must make controls and they are responsible of interventions provided by law.

The public wants from animal welfare organizations in case of the serious and critical situation to intervene and judge the guilty persons.

I've Pardoned a Pig!

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SPREAD THE VEGAN MESSAGE - PLEASE READ!!!

Dear All

Your help is desperately needed to help spread the Vegan message through what could be a Channel 4 cookery program in the UK.

A very close friend who runs an a fully Vegan animal sanctuary in Kent (and who is the best cook in the world as far as I am concerned!) has the opportunity to have her own cookery show but... there is much competition!

If you click on this link: http://www.4docs.org.uk/competition/view/387/The+Garden+of+Eaton there is a short clip you can watch which is an snippet of what the show would be about.

If you like it, (which I don't doubt you will), then please sign up to the site (it literally takes seconds!), hit the "recently added" tab to find the vid "Garden of Eaton" which is currently at the bottom of the page and then click on the heart on the right hand side to give your vote. If she gets the most votes then her program will be the one that Channel 4 choose and it will be an amazing tool to help boost to the Vegan AR movement.

I know we all have so much to do and I seldom post out requests because of this fact but please PLEASE take the 2 minutes it will require to do this.

If you fancy a quick look at the FRIEND Farmed Animal Rescue website you can have a look here: http://www.friendsanimalrescue.org.uk/, however please note it is under construction at the moment.

Thanks for your help and PLEASE CROSSPOST INTERNATIONALLY!!!

The fire buring dog

Justin Moulder, 18, and Joshua Moulder, 17, brutalized, tortured and killed a 3-month old tan and white puppy. They tied her front paws together with duct tape, tied her rear paws together with duct tape, and then taped her front and hind legs together with tape. They wound tape so tightly around the puppys mouth and nose she could barely breathe. That was only the beginning. The puppy, less than five months old, was immersed in white paint which the defendants tried to ignite with matches or a lighter. When that didn't work, they removed two shelves from a commercial gas range, put the pup inside, turned on the gas and literally cooked this animal inside and out. The puppy's body was so charred. The alleged perpetrators of this crime are currently awaiting trial in Atlanta. Please help these to kids go to jail for their immature behavior. They killed a baby animal what if that was a real baby? huh? We cant afford this happening to any more animals.

Save Baby Elephant Val from Tim Frisco

I have recently discovered a baby elephant by the name of Val. Through the In Defense of Animals Organization. I received an email that informed me she would be in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the Carson and Barnes Circus on December , 2009. It will be at the Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 4:30 on December 4, 2009. I want as many people that will sign this petition so that the circus of Carson and Barnes be closed down and the animals under the training of Tim Frisco be placed in sanctuaries. Tim is a cruel horrible person. He trains poor baby Val with bullhooks. He trains all the elephants with bullhooks, electric prods, screaming and cursing them. A few of the Elephants have died under mysterious condition's. This has got to be stopped and fast. Poor baby Val, her eyes wide with fear in one picture when Mr. Frisco put his hand out toward her in a show. How can we stop this? By calling, writing, and signing this petition that will make it's way to Carson and Barnes and the Stop Inhumane Treatment of Circus Animals organization's. To the Congressman, Mayor's in every city they go. To the Animal Resue people. We have to make a difference. There are no entertainment animals that are not treated cruelly in on way or another, but Carson and Barnes' Tim Frisco in charge of traing these poor mistreated Elephants has to be stopped and we are the only one's who can do it. So help anyway you can. Call, write, sign. It is our duty to help those poor defenseless animals. Thank you. Sincerely, Anita Murray Cook

USA- Deer hunt held up by animal-rights groups

The first ever deer hunt in Valley Forge National Historical Park that was scheduled to begin this month could be held up after two animal-rights groups filed a lawsuit against the government Friday.

Friends of Animals, a Connecticut-based advocacy group and CARE, a nonprofit West-Chester-based organization filed the lawsuit in federal court asking among other things that the court stop the National Park Service from implementing the White-tailed Deer Management Plan.

The deer management plan which was approved by park officials Oct. 1 calls for killing at least 1,000 of the estimated 1,277 deer in the park over four years. According to the plan, the number of deer in the park increased from 31-35 deer per square mile in 1983 to more than 241 deer per square mile today. The goal is to reduce the number of deer to 1980's levels or about 165 to 185 and then maintain the population through birth control.

Over-browsing of shrubs and seedlings by deer has led to the decline of the forest. The plan also cites the need to reduce the deer population as a way to prevent Chronic Wasting Disease. CWD is not currently in Pennsylvania.

The lawsuit claims that the deer management plan is logically and legally misguided.

"The deer should be protected because white-tailed deer are a cultural and historical resource to Valley Forge that were present at the time of the Continental Army's encampment in 1777.

"Moreover, protecting some of Valley Forge's resources at the expense of another is contrary to Con

gress' charge to preserve all the park's resources."

The suit also claims that "to protect a herd from a deadly disease by killing off the herd is illogical."

The animal rights group questioned why the National Park Service had not given more consideration to introducing a limited number of coyotes to the park to control the deer population.

Kristina Heister, a natural resource manager at Valley Forge National Historical Park, said the park already has coyotes, but there is no evidence coyotes would make a significant impact on the large number of deer in the park.

The park's deer management plan calls for sharpshooters using silencers to kill the deer at night.

In a statement Friends of Animals legal director Lee Hall condemned the plan.

"The government's desire to deploy a rifle team to war on the deer lacks biological, ecological and ethical sense."

Allison Memmo Geiger, president of CARE, said, "Valley Forge National Historical Park's managers and the National Park Service have displayed a lack of respect for nature, for those of use who enjoy and pass through the park, and for the deer whose habitat is the park."

largest ever transnational operation targeting wildlife crime across Africa has resulted in the arrests of over 100 people

INTERPOL has announced that the success of “Operation Costa” - Africa’s largest ever transnational wildlife crime operation - was due to the coordinated efforts of police, national wildlife, customs and national intelligence officers across Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

In addition to illegal elephant ivory, leopard skins, weapons, ammunition, and vehicles were confiscated.

Plan to breed lab monkeys splits Puerto Rican town

GUAYAMA, Puerto Rico -- Puerto Rico has such a bad history with research monkeys running amok that some residents are stunned that its government has tentatively approved a plan to import and breed thousands of primates for sale to U.S. researchers.

Bioculture Ltd., with facilities at 19 sites around the world, has secured construction permits and hopes to begin operating next summer in Guayama, a small, depressed mountain district in southeastern Puerto Rico.

They want to turn the Caribbean territory into a major supplier of primates, much to the dismay of islanders already dealing with a plague of patas monkeys - descendants of lab esc
