Ten young cats, who were kept in small cages stacked on top of each other in a garage for most of their lives, have been taken in by a Bristol rehoming charity.
The animals were so poorly looked after by their owner that they arrived at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary with embedded claws, they had to have diseased teeth extracted, and were given full inoculations.
The charity in Wild Country Lane, Barrow Gurney, has spent £2,000 on the cats in just over a week.
But one of the youngest cats, Merlin, who is very unwell, urgently needs an operation on both his ears.
Holly Hedge founder Pauline Leeson told the Evening Post: "We took in the 10 cats just over a week ago.
"They had been kept in small cages for two years.
"The man is a cataholic but I can think of another name for him.
"Some of these poor cats had their claws embedded in their pads which must have been so painful.
