USA- PACIFIC COAST DOG RESCUE

Pacific Coast Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 and dedicated to helping end the overwhelming pet overpopulation problem in Southern California with a specific interest in the Greater Los Angeles-area. We have a facility in Burbank, CA, which is licensed to hold 90 dogs and is always at capacity.

Our dogs are rescued from “death row” at city and county shelters, from a life abandoned on the streets, and from other situations of neglect and cruelty. While in our care, each dog is given the love and attention they need to be adopted into a new, permanent home. Each dog receives the high quality vet-approved diet, is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, vetted, groomed, exercised, housebroken and socialized so he or she will be prepared for life with a loving family.

Chase - rescued the day she was scheduled to die (By Eldad Hagar)

Chase was scheduled to be euthanized at the shelter here in Los Angeles. Luckily, I spotted her in the back room, and I knew exactly what I had to do. Please watch the video, share it with your friends, and please consider making a small donation to HOPE FOR PAWS so we can save more animals like Chase. http://www.hopeforpaws.org/hope_for_p...

Thank you so much!

Edie - rescued yesterday an hour before euthanasia (Video by Eldad Hagar and Bronwyne Mirkovich)

Edie was so scared at the shelter and was scheduled to be euthanized yesterday. She was so lucky to have Bronwyne visit the shelter and save her life. I just helped with calming her down and showing everybody how these dogs can be easily managed with a little bit of love and patience. Please help us save more animals by making a small $10 donation so we can help more animals. Our website: http://www.hopeforpaws.org

RADU, tormented soul, tortured by an evil mind, was abandoned, with one eye hanging out down and crippled by two feet, so walk, as much succeeded with the other two legs that were on the same side. He was led by emergency to the vet, where they finally removed the eye and sewed that place remained empty, the leg had the bone came out through the skin was recovered and managed to not be amputated, but still not completely restored, following other operations to feet, endeavoring to recover him to stay with as few sequelae.RADU, this tormented soul need us who want to make him to forget the horrors in the past, and to ensure happiness, from now on.

Seven Dogs Chained in Pennsylvania Woods: Two Dogs Still Left Out there, See Update

Update, March 15, 2010: Two dogs STILL wait for help out in the woods. The black dog and the blind St. Bernard mix. Central Pennsylvania Humane Society will not release the other three dogs to rescue groups. We are demanding to know what they have done with Big Boy, who they claim is unavailable for adoption. He deserves better than life in a chain and death in a shelter.

Update, March 10, 2010: Thayne, the founder of Dogs Deserve Better, is being charged with trespassing for helping these dogs get the care they needed! And what are the abusers getting? Nothing, AGAIN.

Update, March 9, 2010: Update on the 7 dogs off Gypsy Hollow Rd. Tyrone, PA. We believe the chainers took the smaller dogs, the chihuahua and the matted dog. We think the humane officer took the dog with the tumor, the girl with the female problems, and the black and tan dog. There are STILL two dogs on the property: The black dog who rolls over for a belly rub, and the blind St. Bernard mix. He says he was unable to pull these two because it's NOT ILLEGAL to take a dog out to a piece of property where no one lives, there's not even a house or a mailbox, and chain them up for life. This is WRONG! Join our coalition to change the law if you're a Pennsylvania resident at http://www.unchainpadogs.com

How long, Pennsylvania? How long must chained dogs wait for a law protecting them from this abuse? Dogs Deserve Better had heard rumors of dogs chained in the mountains off Gypsy Camp Hollow Rd. in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. An anonymous tip gave us the location, and we went out there to investigate. We found seven dogs, all suffering in a variety of ways: all full of hook and whip worms, one blind dog, one with a big tumor, one severely matted, and the worst one with a major back end physical issue. One dog died during the January cold snap.

Please help us pass a law that will stop these abusers from torturing anymore dogs! Join our coalition today at http://www.unchainpadogs.com. Contact your local Pennsylvania State House Reps and Senators and tell them, NO MORE! The abuse stops here and now.

JADE – LOVE IS THE BEST MEDICINE -PLEASE SUPPORT HELP ME HEAL PROGRAM

My name is Jade and I'm a Pit bull Mutt-i-gree™. I'm only 7 months old and have already been through a traumatic ordeal. Just a short time ago, I was living in a small, overcrowded shelter, and I wasn't sure what was going to happen to me. I was very sick and looked it.
North Shore Animal League America changed my life. They rescued me and placed me in their Help Me Heal Program, which nurses pets back to health. Doctors examined me, people flooded me with attention and affection, and I finally felt safe.

The Animal League doctors diagnosed me with a delicate condition called megaesophagus. My esophagus can not properly move food down into my stomach, causing me to regurgitate. This regurgitation can be very dangerous and even deadly. I can choke on my food and suffocate or I can starve if food doesn't get to my tummy.

Because of this, I need to be upright when I eat. My food has to be soft and I have to remain upright for about 20 minutes after I'm done eating. Staying upright took some getting used to. But the Animal League made me my very own chair - like a baby chair that holds me secure and keeps me as comfortable as possible. Unfortunately though, megaesophagus is permanent, so I will have to have my meals this way for the rest of my life.
I also had a very severe case of pneumonia - so bad that the doctors were afraid I wasn't going to make it. Pneumonia and megaesophagus are a lethal combination. I was so sick; I could barely move. But nobody gave up on me. People sat with me - even when I was sleeping. It was very comforting during a very difficult and confusing time. I'm finally stable but still need to rest and still need to be hospitalized.

If you can believe it, I was also diagnosed with severe demodex infestation, which is a skin disease caused by mites. My skin is bright pink, flakey and I'm very itchy and uncomfortable. Most of my hair has fallen out, but it will grow back when I'm better. Everyone says I'm still beautiful. That makes me happy.
Even though I have all these problems, I'm not worried. I'm getting excellent care at the Animal League. They've already gotten me stable from the pneumonia, have my feedings down to a science, and soon I'll have a healthy coat. But they're not just giving me medical care, they're giving me tons of love…and love is the best medicine in the world. When I'm all better, they'll find a family to love me forever.

YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT HELPS ME GET THROUGH EVERY DAY, NO MATTER HOW SICK I FEEL.

It's because of you that the Animal League's Help Me Heal Program is able to take care of me and so many other sick pets. You save our lives.

PLEASE HELP US HEAL, YOUR SUPPORT IS OUR BEST MEDICINE

Rest in peace- dearest Angela Hogan from Tailends dog rescue in the UK- a special tribute

Rest in peace dearest 'Angela Hogan' from 'Tailends' dog rescue in the UK-please visit the 'Tailends' website here- http://www.tailends.co.uk/

The wonderful Angela Hogan (one of our lovely supporters) has sadly passed away recently. Angela who ran 'Tailends' dog rescue in the UK has rescued so many dogs in desperate need over the years including abused and exploited greyhounds. She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her. She was a very special lady, selfless and dedicated in helping so many dogs in distress. A true Earth angel. Our loving thoughts are with Angela's family, close friends and furry friends at this very sad time, we send all our love to you all.

f you would like to make a donation in memory of dear Angela please see the info below on how you can do this.

Emails are now directed to Suzie at k9cookies@googlemail.com

Please read the important info below and how 'Tailends' began their wonderful work 20 years ago. 'Tailends' will continue with their marvellous work for the dogs.

Many thanks to all our supporters

Greyhound Crusaders/SWAP team UK

Info and funeral details taken from the 'Tailends' website are below

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Angela passed away at 4.40 this morning, Thursday 4 March. As some of you know Angela was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and had undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy in an attempt to treat this condition but unfortunately in December she was told that the cancer had spread and nothing further could be done. Through all of this treatment, and in the month's since, Angela's main concern continued to be the welfare of her beloved Tailenders and the future of Tailends going forward. Please be assured that Tailends will continue, it is Angela's legacy.

Our thoughts are with George on the loss of his beloved wife of 25 years and with Angela's son Jarrod. Funeral details will follow, but could we ask that at this difficult time any emails are directed to Suzie k9cookies@googlemail.com and emergency phone calls only.

Angela was convinced when she died she would be reunited with all the Tailenders who had gone before and we should think of her now being fussed over by Gloria and surrounded by all the dogs she saved and whose lives she transformed, enveloped in their love. Suzie Scott

Tell Blair County DA Richard Consiglio you expect animal cruelty cases to be tried AND convicted. 814.693.3010.

Update: Central Pennsylvania Humane Society is working on this case now that we've reported it. They were out there both Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7 with the police. Yesterday we went to see if the dogs were still there. They were, but there were two vehicles there an they were cleaning up some of the feces. They pulled two dogs out of there, the chihuahua and the matted white dog. The humane officer is going back out now, March 8, to force them to get vet care of give up the dogs, so he tells us.

Problem is, it's still not illegal to take a dog and chain it up out in the woods. THIS MUST BE STOPPED! IF YOU LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA, PLEASE MAKE THE PHONE CALLS TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, AND PLEASE JOIN OUR COALITION AT http://www.unchainpadogs.com/.

Tell the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society to release dogs to Dogs Deserve Better so they can be rehabilitated and find new, inside, loving homes. Did you know they have not yet joined our coalition to pass a tethering law in Pennsylvania? Tell them to join the Coalition to Unchain PA Dogs, AND to work these cruelty cases and bring them to fruition. 814.943.7575.

' Bye Baby ' an adaptation of a poem - Doris Banham Dog Rescue

This Youtube is an adaptation of a poem written by an Animal Shelter Volunteer in Massena, New York.

Written from the heart through what she saw with her own eyes - her poem is about the many healthy dogs that are euthanased in pounds because they are no longer wanted or loved.

Every few seconds a dog is euthanased, many of them healthy and homeable.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue continue to save forgotten dogs from being euthanased in the UK.

ROMANIA - APAM`s animal shelter

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

URGENT! - Jacksonville, FL - She is named Hope, and she Desperately needs your help!

I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had left her at animal control. She was left in their drop pen outside their facility. She is one of the saddest cases I have ever seen at any shelter.

She tries to walk, and falls over from exhaustion. Her skin is bright pink underneath, and all her hair has fallen out. She is having trouble breathing but keeps wagging her tail.

Please forward this to anyone that wants to help a really bad case.

*Her account for medical will be set up at Beaches Animal clinic: Phone: 904-246-2045, or: 904-246-2045.

I'm going to try my hardest to save her. Say a prayer for her!

These pics don't do justice. She's really bad in person, but so so sweet.

Love you all!

SHELTER WILL KILL THIS DOG INSTEAD OF RETURNING TO OWNERS- SIGN THE PETITION &SHARE

His name is SMOKEY LODOS
He is 7 years old
He has been with this family since he was a puppy
He is being kept at the shelter under CASE#A1109303

The Broward Shelter has determined to kill this dog instead of returning it to his owners.
The claim on Smokey is that he is considered to be a " Dangerous dog"
The cause as stated by the owner:
"While the family and Smokey were in the house the family's child was playing with another children who had come over to play. Soon thereafter the children started to fight with one another. Immediately Smokey jumped up to defend his owner and bit the other children."

This was reported to the authorities and they gave the owner Mr. Joel Lodos a citation to follow where he was informed to observe the dog for ten (10) days.
As stated: "If the cat or dog appeared healthy at the time you were bitten, it can be confined by its owner for 10 days and observed. It the cat or dog does not have an owner, it will be quarantine at the shelter for up to a 10 day period."

In spite of the citation and requirements written to Mr. Lodos as stated above: to observe and confine Smokey for ten (10) days, an Animal Care Officer removed him from the owner premises before the ten (10) day period.

The owner Mr. Lodos went to the shelter with a lawyer to get his dog back with all the pertinent information and documentation needed. Mr. Lodos gave them a statement of the incident insisting that Smokey had been provoked to react. "Smokey had instinctively jumped to defend his son whom he saw in a fight with the other children."

"Smokey is not an aggressive dog and there was never an incident of this kind towards anyone else." Mr. Lodos added.

But the shelter's response to Mr. Lodos was that they had already decided to 'destroy' the dog.

On the Broward Shelter's website the following statutes are stated:

Dangerous Dogs: Section 4-12
A "Dangerous Dog" is a dog that has done the following:
-A dog that when unprovoked approaches a person in a menacing fashion
with an attack attitude.
-A dog that has killed or caused the death of a domestic animal in one incident, while off the owner's or keeper's property.
-Has aggressively bitten, attack, endangered, killed or inflicted severe injury on a human being on public or private property.
-Has been used primarily or in part for the purpose of dog fighting.

The following is also stated:

"If a dog -whether or not the dog has been classified as "dangerous"-- causes severe injury or death to a person OR domestic animal while unprovoked and off the owners property, an Animal Care Officer will impound the dog. Written notice will be given to the owner and after ten (10) business days from the date of notification, the dog will be humanely euthanize."
http://www.broward.org/animal/ani01700.htm#Dangerous

It seems that the Broward Animal Shelter is creating it's own rules and is not following it's own published statutes.
Based on the published statutes this dog, Smokey should have been entitled to the ten (10) day observation period by his owner Mr. Lodo.

The occurrence was because the dog was provoked by the children fighting and it happened on the owners property.
Then why has the Broward Shelter taken the decision to euthanize this dog?

Mr. Lodos and his family are in a state of shock, disbelief, sadness and anguish by the decisions and steps taken by the Broward Animal Shelter.
In desperation to save Smokey's life this family has even offered the shelter to send the dog out of the country to live with relatives to no avail.

What justifies this shelter's change of ruling and deviation from their own published statutes?
What does the Broward shelter leave this destroy family with?
Is this not considered cruel behavior on their part?
Is this legal?
