Scammers Trying to Profit from Rescued Abused Dog (Patrick)
NEWARK, NJ – The saga of Patrick, a pit bull, who is making a miraculous recovery after being starved nearly to death and thrown from the chute of a 19th floor apartment before being rescued by Associated Humane Societies has captured much attention from the media and the general public.
Unfortunately, the story has also intrigued some who are using Patrick's plight to scam money from unsuspecting victims. Now there are organizations, individuals, various entities that are collecting on behalf of Patrick or in his name. Some groups/individuals are selling t-shirts, artwork, etc. with his likeness, etc. or the funds are used for out-of-state shelters with the donor believing that they will help Patrick.
Associated Humane Societies took in an emaciated dog, hours from death, on March 16th. It took us most of the day to stabilize the dog. The Associated Humane Societies brought the dog to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls for round the clock care.
Patrick is still recuperating at Garden State Veterinary Specialists and is making a slow and steady recovery.
"The story of Patrick alone is heartbreaking, but the fact that people are trying to profit from this travesty is just despicable," said Associated Humane Societies Executive Director Roseann Trezza.
"The Associated Humane Societies has not received any funds from such fund raisers for Patrick. We urge those who are concerned about Patrick and his future, to log on to the Society's website at www.ahscares.org. There is also a daily update on Patrick's Progress."
Well-meaning animal lovers should be aware of these types of scams and only make donations to organizations that directly support animals, such as AHS. When in doubt check out websites that evaluate nonprofit agencies like Charity Navigator or call the Department of Consumer Affairs in their county.
Meantime, anyone who wishes to help in Patrick's treatment can make donations on his behalf or any of the injured animals that regularly come through the Societies' doors through its ResQ Fund, a restricted fund to help offset the expenses of animals requiring special care.

North East Animal Rescue Inc. They actually informed us this morning, that "a guy called up Bruce, demanding a clearer picture because the one he has is showing up fuzzy on the shirts he's making." ~ Hence they have now copyrighted ALL photos of Patrick.
