We are glad to report that Harley’s case was championed by an animal-advocate district attorney, Harley’s former owner was sentenced to 300 days in prison for animal cruelty -- and Harley was removed from his custody. Through donations by people like you, who care deeply about animals, American Humane Association helps provide a second chance at life for battered, mistreated, starving or homeless animals. But we can’t do it alone. We ask you to give generously, so that we can do more for the defenseless. This year, more than ever, we need your help to make sure that critically needed medical treatment for dogs like Harley will be provided. Treatment that enables them to recover from their injuries and learn to trust people again. Please donate now to give them a second chance. |

Atlanta, GA -- The Atlanta Humane Society announced yesterday that it is adding $5,000 to the reward to find the person(s) responsible for two brutal dog killings.
The dogs, purebred chocolate Labs, wandered from their home on January 16. While they were away from their owner, someone tortured and killed them. Neighbors discovered the dogs' bodies on January 23 around 3:30 p.m. near Hutcheson Road in Bremen.
The dogs' owner is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the person responsible for the brutal killing.
The Carroll County Sheriff's office has reported that the dogs appear to have been beaten, shot and one appears to have been choked.
Someone capable of such brutality must be found and punished. People capable of brutal animal cruelty are frequently a danger to society as a whole.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 770-830-5916. Investigators are currently following some leads, but they are asking that the public phone them if they have any additional tips or information.

Utica, NY - Sub-zero temperatures were apparently no deterrant to the man that decided to tie his Pit bull to a table and walk away yesterday.
People hearing the early morning cries from the 3 yr-old dog contacted authorities. They found a dog covered in wounds, with icicles hanging from his body.
The police photo shows the dog's blood on the backseat of the patrol car, and the dejected, defeated face of misery.

Maryville, MO - Though the New Nodaway Humane Society is proud of their status as a No-Kill facility, they admit that they are struggling and need help.
The shelter does everything right - they actively promote their sheltered cats and dogs, and they work hand in hand with rescues and foster homes, but sometimes, even doing 'everything right', simply isn't enough.

Lyons, GA - In a perfect world, only people that were dedicated to life-long dog ownership would exist. In a perfect world, animal shelters would not brim with unwanted pets discarded by the general public for every "move", "baby", or "busy schedule".
In a perfect world, the un-wanted would be wanted and euthanasia would be a word never uttered.
The world is far from perfect and modern-day solutions to problems are typically far from ideal. A mass killing of dogs at the City of Lyons Animal Shelter has sparked huge controversy and anger among animal advocates.

Abandoned in a terrible condition, hounded and bitten by other dogs, Anita is at the end of her strength, she doesn’t have anymore the force to fight for life but we hope to succeed to get her back on her feet, to give her confidence that from now on she’s on good hands and nothing bad will happen anymore. Although we are full of serious cases, we always receive desperate calls and we cannot back away, they need us and we always need you. We’ve always succeeded together to save oppressed and abandoned souls who, some of them are now under treatment, some cured and others already with their families where are loved and treasured as any animal deserves to be. We thank you!

Senna however, is still waiting for someone to open their hearts to him :((( Dumped on a rubbish dump to die, he has come such a long way. His foster mom is going back overseas and cannot keep him forever, please help!

CHIPIN: http://katielovesdogs.chipin.com/heartworm-treatment
This sweet and energetic boy has spent his life on a chain. When I found him, he was chained to a tree, but his owners told me he had previously been chained to a post. He was never played with, fed regularly, or given proper shelter from the elements, besides an uninsulated dog house that he could barely get inside of due to the length of his chain.
When I found a rescue to take him in, they told me I would have to have him tested for heartworms and that they would reimburse me for his testing. Unfortunately, life on a chain without proper treatment has it's consequences. He tested positive for heartworm. Fortunately, the vet said it was only slightly positive, and that he has a great chance of getting better and living a great life! The rescue, however, refused to take him because they said they could use their resources to help dogs who were already healthy.
Luckily, I found another GREAT rescue who agreed to take him. They are going to treat his heartworm. I have agreed to help them raise funds for his treatment and vetting. This boy is SO sweet and will make such a great pet for the right family. PLEASE help if you can! Even if it's just $1!!!!
Thank you all so much for caring, he's a great dog!

This poor dog has been banished to a cold balcony with temperatures dropping into the single digits. A fellow rescuer spoke to the owner's who agreed to bring the dog inside but within a day the dog was back on the balcony DURING A SNOW STORM with nothing provided to stay warm. This poor fellow is 10 years old and only about 10lbs. His little body cannot handle this cold.
Due to the out-pouring of concern for this dog the owner's have placed rugs around the balcony to prevent anyone from seeing the dog. But he is still there.
Dogs Deserve Better has warm place for this doggie to go, we just need AC to do their jobs and get him out of there ASAP!
