A senior German Shepherd mix (11 yr. old Nellie) was seen cowering in the corner at the local shelter. She had been taken there by a neighbor as her owner was no longer able to care for her.
Imagine the thoughts going through this poor dogs mind….removed from those she worshiped and placed in a cage at a loud, noisy strange place. It seemed to be the end of her world. You can see that in her posture and fear as she cringes in the corner in the video.
Hearing of her plight a wonderful group, Young at Heart Pet Rescue, stepped up and removed her from the situation.
The rescue describes her emotional state at removal:
Never have we seen a dog so broken-hearted or so broken-spirited. She had to be carried out of animal control, and had to be be carried into our vet's office because she just dropped to the ground in fear and refused to move. She doesn't growl or try to bite, she simply shuts down. She will need a lot of love and rehabilitation. She's at our vet's office now getting checked over as slowly as necessary so not to worry her more. We keep telling her she's safe, but we suspect it will take some time for her to believe us.
